 We spoke about this just after the second victory of the Audi R10 TDI at the Le Mans 24 hours, but the idea seemed to have been dropped. At the Detroit show Audi presented an R8 V12 TDI concept. A prototype which gave rise to the definitive model: the R8 TDI Le Mans. Coupled with a 6-speed manual box, this V12 is a 6 litre bi-turbo producing 500 bhp and 1,000 Nm. Nothing less. And enough to catapult this R8 Quattro from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds? that's four tenths faster than the petrol version! Top speed is stated as 300 km/h. On the outside, this diesel super-sports car is distinguished from its petrol cousin by larger air intakes to cool the sizzling V12, and by the wheels, skirts and spoilers which have been lightly reworked.The P-Tronic box-unit for this model isn't quite ready yet? |
